This study aims to further analyze the dynamics and challenges of emotional relationships among older adults in social service institutions. Elderly individuals are vulnerable to social, psychological, and health problems, particularly those experiencing decreased organ function, which limits their ability to meet daily needs. In the context of changing social structures and weakening family support systems, the existence of social service institutions as providers of protection and fulfillment of the rights of older adults, particularly those who are neglected or without family, is crucial. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method to explore in depth the emotional relationships formed between older adults, fellow residents, and service providers, as well as the various challenges that arise in this process. Data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The results indicate that older adults' emotional relationships are influenced by past experiences, psychosocial conditions, adaptation patterns to the nursing home environment, and the quality of interactions with social workers and caregivers. Challenges that arise include loneliness, loss of role, conflict between residents, and limited institutional resources in meeting the emotional needs of older adults. Therefore, this study provides recommendations for improving the quality of psychosocial interventions and increasing service capacity in creating an environment that supports the emotional well-being of older adults in social service institutions.
